How to Change Your Dog or Cat's Diet

When switching puppies and dogs, or kittens and cats, to a new diet, this transition should be made gradually to increase your pet's acceptance of the new food and to avoid possible digestive upset or diarrhea.

Healthy Pet Foods Inc recommends transitioning your dog or cat over a 7-day period as follows:

• Day 1 and 2:  Mix 20% of new food with 80% of old food 
• Day 3 and 4:  Mix 40% of new food with 60% of old food
• Day 5 and 6:  Mix 80% of new food with 20% of old food
• Day 7:  Feed only new food

Puppies and kittens at 12 months of age should be switched to an Adult maintenance formula to ensure they are receiving proper nutrient levels.
